Harold Zisla (1925-2016)

Consumed by his commitment to art, Harold Zisla (1925-2016) explored dozens of approaches and produced thousands of paintings, works on paper, and sketchbook pages. Trained as a representational artist, his portraits and still lifes revealed a mastery of technique, and developed a following. At the age of 55, he tentatively, then whole-heartedly, embraced abstraction. For the next 35 years, in images ranging from exuberantly colorful to hauntingly pared down, and recorded in sizes from 7" x 5" to 48" x 44", he pushed himself to delve into the possibilities offered by the vocabulary of art and strived to reveal his unique psychology.
